Wilkie Collins is probably the most accessible author of the nineteenth century, and this is another excellent novel. It does not quite match The Woman in White, but that is an absolute masterpiece. The Dead Secret does not fall far short though, and as well as the excellent plot and characters, this novel gives another great insight into Victorian Britain/5().
